On January 5th 2012, I am packing up my suitcases and boarding a plane for Laos. Two days and multiple layovers later, I will arrive in Vientiane, Laos; my home for the next year. Hopefully I've sufficiently prepared myself over the last couple of weeks and the culture shock will be cushioned slightly by friendly expats and the new found ability to Skype. In true American style, my preparation for this adventure has mostly been via consumerism; purchasing unnecessary items to alleviate my anxiety and fears. So far I've bought a new camera (thanks to Greg's research and advice), a kindle and an arm full of ebooks, a steripen water filter, and some sturdy sandals. What more could you need when moving halfway around the world?
My hope is to use this blog as a means to keep everyone updated on my endeavors via photos, etc. However, my camera has yet to arrive from Amazon.com so until then the photos will be lacking, and I'm afraid these posts will be less then enticing.
Looking forward to your blog posts this coming year, Cody. Best of wishes on your LONG journey. Happy travels! Jann H.

ReplyDeleteBeloved Toady, This might be repetitive. I made comment yesterday, can't see it! I can learn! I swear it! Anyway, excited to be on your journey with you. Yes , always humbling to find we're not the center of the universe.
